3 Items To Consider When Building With Hay Barn Plans
Of all the barns you can build, the hay barn is one of the easiest. It is usually of a post frame construction, allowing plenty of open area within where things can easily be stored such as large bales of hay or equipment. Normally when you look at hay barn plans you will notice that three sides are enclosed and the fourth is open allowing hay to be easily stacked or removed from the interior.

#1 - Entrance
When looking at the plans you must ensure that they allow you access to the interior of the shed throughout the year. So make sure that you choose a location to put your hay barn that the earth around won't become too muddy when the weather turns inclement. Plus, of course, you must ensure that there is plenty of space adjacent to the structure to allow you to maneuver trucks in and around it with little difficulty.
#2 - Natural Drainage
It is critical that the land where the barn is to be constructed has adequate drainage so that no water is able to accumulate around it. Plus any water you have going into the barn should be diverted away from it. If you can construct the shed on some land that is somewhat at an angle, that would really be beneficial to the barn. Also, it would ensure that any water will not be absorbed by the wood of the barn which may cause it to rot and have to be repaired.
#3 - Orientation of the Entrance
It is vital that you make sure that you look at which direction the wind blows towards where you are planning to locate your barn. Then, using your hay barn plans, make sure that the entrance to it is located on the side opposite to where the wind will be hardest. Not only will this ensure that the contents within the barn are protected, it is going to cut back the amount of wind loads placed on it.
If you opt for free barn plans, or attempt to build the barn with no plans, you're going to have to figure all of these things out by yourself, which could be disastrous. Building with quality hay barn plans will ensure that all of these items are taken care of, and that your project is not only a success, but economical as well.
